SDL Strikers: The Perfect Response

SDL Strikers: The Perfect Response

The 12 images are separate landscape illustrations. Insert each one exactly where its marker appears below.

1. The Invitation

Malik Cole was already one of the league’s quickest goalkeepers. He could read a striker’s movement, leap across the goal, and catch shots that looked impossible to stop.

But Malik didn’t want to be good. He wanted to be unbeatable.

That was why he accepted an invitation to the mysterious SDL Elite Training Program. Its brochure promised faster reactions, sharper concentration, and “complete control under pressure.”

Malik imagined returning to his club as the greatest goalkeeper they had ever seen.

At sunset, he approached the enormous black-and-blue SDL facility carrying his soccer bag.

“Four weeks in there,” Malik said, looking back at the city. “Then nobody scores against me again.”

2. The Evaluation

The facility was almost silent inside. Blue lights ran through its dark corridors, guiding Malik toward an evaluation room.

A stern coach waited beside a collection of glowing screens.

“Malik Cole,” the coach said. “Goalkeeper. Excellent speed. Strong instincts. High independence.”

Malik smiled. “That sounds about right.”

He stepped onto a circular scanner. Blue light moved around him while the screens measured his balance, posture, reactions, and movement.

“Where are the soccer tests?” Malik asked.

“They will begin when you are ready.”

“I’m ready now.”

The coach studied the results without answering.

3. The New Uniform

The coach led Malik into an equipment chamber.

An upgraded SDL uniform waited inside a glowing glass pod. It was black with sharp blue lines, reinforced gloves, and the white SDL shield displayed over the chest.

Malik stared at it.

“That’s goalkeeper equipment?”

“It is training equipment,” the coach replied.

The uniform adjusted itself when Malik put it on. The gloves tightened comfortably around his hands, while blue indicators briefly glowed across the material.

Malik flexed his fingers.

“Feels good.”

“It will measure every response you make.”

“Then let’s give it something worth measuring.”

4. Assessment 01

Malik entered a vast training hall. A goal waited at the far end, and a soccer ball rested on a glowing circle in front of him.

This finally looked familiar.

A screen activated above the goal:

ASSESSMENT 01

Malik lowered himself into a goalkeeper’s ready stance.

“Go ahead,” he called. “Take your best shot.”

The coach remained behind the observation window.

The expected shot never came.

5. The First Command

The floor opened beneath the ball. Malik watched in confusion as it disappeared into the facility.

The screen changed.

DOWN

Malik looked toward the coach.

“You want me to dive?”

“Follow the command.”

Malik hesitated before crouching.

“Down,” the coach repeated.

Realizing what was expected, Malik placed his hands on the floor.

“This is some kind of warm-up, right?”

The coach didn’t answer.

6. Perfect Form

Malik began performing controlled push-ups while blue sensors tracked his posture.

Lines appeared around his shoulders, arms, and legs, measuring every movement. After the assessment ended, the screen displayed:

FORM: PERFECT

Malik stood and brushed off his gloves.

“Good. Now can we play soccer?”

“Stand at attention,” ordered the coach.

Malik straightened without thinking.

The coach entered another result into the system.

Malik noticed something strange: the program had measured how quickly he followed the instruction—not how well he played.

7. Faster Responses

“Salute,” the coach said.

Malik laughed. “Seriously?”

A timer appeared on the wall.

Malik raised his hand into a formal salute.

RESPONSE: 0.4 SEC

“Again,” said the coach.

Malik lowered his hand.

“Salute.”

His second response was even faster.

The strange drills continued. Turn. Stand. Hold. Move. Stop.

There were still soccer balls around the facility, but Malik was rarely allowed to touch them.

Every command earned him a score. Every hesitation lowered it.

Soon, improving those numbers became strangely important to him.

8. The Presentation Test

During the next assessment, bright lights activated above Malik.

“Flex,” ordered the coach.

Malik glanced at the empty soccer pitch.

“What does that improve?”

“Presentation.”

“Presentation of what?”

“SDL discipline.”

Malik raised his arms and performed the requested athletic pose. The uniform measured his posture while the coach watched the results.

The screen displayed:

COMPLIANCE: 76%

Malik frowned—not because the test was ridiculous, but because his score wasn’t high enough.

“I can do better than seventy-six.”

“I know,” said the coach.

9. Faster Than Thought

During the third week, the commands accelerated.

“Squat.”

Malik moved.

“Salute.”

His hand snapped upward.

“Ready.”

He entered a goalkeeper stance.

The instructions came so quickly that Malik no longer had time to question them. His body responded before he consciously considered what the words meant.

The screens no longer displayed soccer statistics. They measured different abilities now:

Response speed. Formation accuracy. Command retention. Compliance.

At the end of the session, the final result appeared:

ACCURACY: 100%

Malik smiled. It was his first perfect score.

10. The Soccer Test

On the final week, the coach brought Malik onto an indoor soccer pitch.

A goal stood behind him.

“Finally,” Malik said.

A machine gently rolled a ball toward the open side of the goal. It would have been an easy save.

Malik prepared to move.

Then the screen flashed:

POSITION

A blue marker illuminated several meters away.

Malik looked between the marker and the approaching ball.

Every goalkeeper instinct told him to make the save.

But the command had already been given.

Malik turned away from the ball and marched toward the marker. Behind him, the ball rolled into the goal.

“You allowed a goal,” the coach said.

“I followed the command.”

“Correct.”

Malik stood on the marker, uncertain whether he had succeeded or failed.

11. Formation

Six other SDL athletes entered the hall. Soccer balls were scattered around them, but nobody moved toward one.

“Form a line,” ordered the coach.

The athletes moved into position. Malik naturally took the front.

“Hold.”

Everyone became motionless.

The coach walked around the formation, inspecting their posture. Malik remained perfectly still, his eyes fixed forward.

A month earlier, standing still while soccer balls surrounded him would have felt like wasting valuable training time.

Now it felt like passing the test.

The screen confirmed it:

FORMATION ACCURACY: 100%

12. Program Complete

The final assessment took place inside the SDL Strikers stadium.

Thousands of spectators filled the seats. Malik expected an exhibition match, but no opposing team appeared.

Instead, rows of SDL athletes marched onto the pitch and formed behind him.

The stadium lights focused on Malik.

“Candidate Cole,” announced the coach. “Final command.”

Malik waited at attention.

“Salute.”

His hand moved instantly.

The entire formation copied him.

The scoreboard illuminated:

PROGRAM COMPLETE
ROLE: FIELD CAPTAIN

The crowd erupted.

A soccer ball rested unattended in front of the goal behind Malik. He didn’t turn toward it.

He had entered SDL Elite Training hoping to become the perfect goalkeeper. Instead, the program had discovered something else he could perform perfectly.

Following orders.

Malik held his salute beneath the blue stadium lights, calmly waiting for the next command.
